Hello, my name is Dr. John Cartmell and I am a chartered clinical psychologist based in St. Helier, Jersey, in the Channel Islands. I am registered with the British Psychological Society (BPS), and with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Previously I have worked within the NHS and probation services offering therapeutic intervention to a wide variety of populations.

I am also employed by the States of Jersey as a clinical psychologist working with secondary mental health care. This entails a mixture of clinical, research and service development and case management work, as part of a multidisciplinary team.

I am able to provide psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention using a variety of therapy models. My areas of expertise include, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR). I am also trained in Mentalisation Based Treatment (MBT).

I am also able to offer personal CAT therapy that is a requirement of practitioner level training in CAT. This process can be very helpful in coming to understand what we as therapists ‘bring into the room’ with our clients. It can also prevent repeated patterns of thought feeling and action in our personal relationships and lives.
